The latest round of Cancer Research UK Accelerator Awards opened on 1st June 2017, and the deadline for Expressions of Interest is on 26th September 2017. Although Wales doesn’t currently have a Cancer Research UK Centre and can’t lead on an application, we can be a collaborator with another centre and should be pro-actively seeking opportunities to work together with partners outside our nation.
The Accelerator Awards are for a period of up to 5 years, with funding available for up to £1M per year. The awards will fund cross-institutional research teams, bringing together resources and expertise to accelerate progress in cancer research that could not be delivered in isolation.
The award is not intended to find solutions to specific research questions, but to provide the tools to enable the research community to develop the solutions. Any research findings generated should be limited to providing preliminary data, tools and/or other resources which can then be developed by investigators with their research-specific funding.
If you are thinking about collaborating on an Accelerator Award, please inform Jo Hall (HallJ9@cardiff.ac.uk), who will be able to co-ordinate and support applications.
