Early phase clinical trials (Phase I)
Until recently it has been hard for patients in Wales to access innovative therapies. This work package will continue to develop an infrastructure to improve access to early phase clinical trials. The work aims to improve research access for Welsh patients with solid tumours and haematological malignancies to new treatment options via a range of high-quality early phase studies.
The research will build on collaborations between cancer teams in Wales, leading to new early phase studies. These studies will incorporate translational and reverse-translational research. Translational research is the process of bringing newly developed medicine from the lab bench to the patient’s bedside. This work package will utilise the full cycle, taking research from bench to beside and back again, allowing researchers to understand the full impact of their work on patients.
