Translational research involves bringing discoveries from the lab bench to the bedside and from the bedside to the bench, in return.

This theme will "translate" findings into therapies for patients, and enables scientists, using samples from patients, to understand cancer better.

As different people have different outcomes from cancer treatments, it is important that we identify how best to treat patients in a more tailored way. This theme is focused, to a large extent, on stratified medicine, which aims to tackle this problem.

The work will ensure that the benefits of internationally competitive and nationally forefront research are translated into clinical trials for patient benefit. It aims to ensure that the right patients receive the right treatment at the right time and work closely with pre-clinical researchers to identify ways of treating patients with more effective and less toxic treatments.

We work in close collaboration with the Wales Cancer Bank and the Wales Cancer Trials Unit to deliver our translational work. Please click on the links below to find out more about these organisations:

Our translational work is being led by Professor Malcolm Mason.
